Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has won large-scale orders in Saudi Arabia for a 380 kV substation and over 420 km of transmission lines. These projects support the Kingdom’s National Renewable Energy Programme and reinforce L&T’s global leadership in high-voltage infrastructure development.
Mumbai-based engineering giant Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T) has announced a significant international win for its Power Transmission & Distribution vertical. The company has secured a batch of “Large” orders—valued between ₹2,500 and ₹5,000 crore—for grid infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia, as per its October 29, 2025 press release.
The scope includes the construction of a 380/33 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) with hybrid elements, transformers, reactors, and advanced subsystems for automation, protection, HVAC, and firefighting. Additionally, L&T will build 380 kV overhead transmission links spanning more than 420 km.
These projects are integral to Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), aimed at modernizing its grid to accommodate a surge in clean energy capacity.
Key Highlights:
- Notable update: L&T to construct a 380/33 kV GIS substation with full auxiliary systems.
- Major takeaway: Over 420 km of 380 kV transmission lines to be developed.
- Important point: Projects align with Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy expansion goals.
- Strategic context: Reinforces L&T’s global EPC footprint and expertise in high-voltage systems.
