Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, Gujarat has emerged as the best-performing state in implementing PM-JANMAN, a government initiative for the socio-economic upliftment of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). The state has made significant strides in housing, healthcare, electrification, and livelihood for tribal communities.
Gujarat has secured the top position nationally in the execution of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), a flagship Central Government mission aiming to deliver comprehensive development to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups across India. Launched in November 2023 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PM-JANMAN focuses on bridging critical gaps in basic infrastructure and services including housing, drinking water, healthcare, education, electrification, connectivity, and livelihood opportunities.
Under this mission, Gujarat has sanctioned the construction of over 12,400 houses for tribal families and approved 17 road projects to enhance connectivity. The state boasts 100% coverage of piped water supply among identified PVTG households and has electrified all 6,630 unpowered tribal homes. Further, mobile connectivity has been expanded with 37 operational new towers and 4G services in tribal areas.
Healthcare access improved via 22 Mobile Medical Units serving over 125,000 beneficiaries. Additionally, 67 Anganwadis and 13 hostels have been approved to support women’s and children’s welfare and education respectively. The establishment of 21 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras and 39 multipurpose centres drives skill development, nutrition, and cultural preservation among tribal communities.
The mission’s success in Gujarat is a testament to coordinated efforts across eight central ministries and robust state leadership, ensuring holistic tribal development.
