In a development set to transform emergency cardiac treatment, scientists at the University of Mississippi have developed AI-powered wearable devices that can diagnose heart attacks twice as fast as traditional methods-usually in seconds. Low-energy, lightweight devices use advanced artificial intelligence and computational models to analyze electrocardiograms (ECGs) in real time with a high 92.4% accuracy rate.

In contrast to traditional diagnostics that involve hospital visits and prolonged blood draws or ECGs, these wearables-turns out this means smartwatches or clip-on heart monitors-are able to warn users and caregivers immediately, allowing life-saving interventions before irreparable harm is done. Researchers stress that each second matters during a heart attack, and this technology has the potential to save millions of lives globally by allowing real-time, in-home monitoring.
