India's badminton icon PV Sindhu produced an imperious display during the Badminton Asia Championships 2025, moving to the second round after dominating in a straight-sets triumph against Indonesia's Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo. The 44-minute showdown, played in Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, China, resulted in the two-time Olympic medalist earning a 21-15, 21-19 victory.
17th-ranked Sindhu demonstrated her grit and accuracy. Having an early advantage in the first set, she battled past a short threat from Wardoyo to win convincingly. The second set was more intense as Wardoyo caught up to level scores at 19-19, but Sindhu's poise under pressure ensured that she won. The win comes as an inspiration especially for India's delegation after Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy's early losses in men's singles.
Sindhu herself is now pitted against world number four and third seed Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in the pre-quarterfinals. The sole Indian left among women's singles, Sindhu brings her nation's hopes alive in the second round.
