In a landmark move for sustainable media, Radio Outreach 90.8 FM, based in Srirampur village, Jagatsinghpur, has become Odisha’s first radio station to run entirely on green energy. The community station now operates 100% on solar power, covering everything from transmitters to studio equipment and office systems.
Established in 2023, Radio Outreach has been a grassroots voice for rural Odisha, focusing on health, education, agriculture, culture, and women’s empowerment. The transition to clean energy aligns with its mission to promote sustainability not just through content, but through operations.
The station’s rooftop solar system now meets all its daily energy needs—even during peak summer—making it a model for eco-conscious broadcasting. Environmentalists and community leaders have hailed the move as a template for small media units to contribute meaningfully to climate action.
Station Director Subrat Kumar Pati said, “We are proud to lead this green revolution in media.”
