While monsoon rains are soothing the summer heat, they also carry along with them a plethora of hair issues—frizz, limp hair, dandruff, excessive hair fall, and dullness, to name a few. The secret to gorgeous, healthy hair this season, according to Dr. Aparna Santhanam, renowned dermatologist and holistic wellness coach, is not destiny—it's a plan. Here's what you should know to maintain your hair in its best look, no matter how soggy your weather gets.
Key Highlights:
5 Haircare Tips for Monsoon
Rainwater Isn't Hair-Friendly:
Urban rainwater contains pollutants and acidic particles, which can interfere with your scalp's pH, dull the shine of your hair, and make hair strands susceptible to frizz, dandruff, and breakage.
Act Speedily—Rinse Promptly:
Do not allow rain water to dry on your hair. When you arrive home, shampoo your hair in clean, lukewarm water, and then use a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo to cleanse dirt and impurities from your hair before they can cause irreparable harm.
Condition and Dry Right:
Always follow with a moisturizing conditioner after shampooing to restore moisture, lock cuticle, and soothe frizz. Gently pat hair dry—do not rub—using a soft towel. Avoid heat styling, or use temperature cool.
Select Protective Styles and Products:
Braids, buns, and ponytails are your rainy-day BFFs. They minimize frizz and friction. Use anti-frizz serums or leave-in conditioners that are humidity-formulated. Clarify your shampoo once a week to remove buildup.
General Scalp and Hair Health Eat nutrient-rich foods, massage with herbal oils, and cut your ends weekly. Wrap hair with a scarf or umbrella when rains are heavy to prevent exposure to pollutants. Be prepared, be stylish—let the rain come down while you open each lock!
