The ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Ramadan, is set to commence around March 1, 2025, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. This holy period involves fasting from before dawn to sunset, increased prayers, and reflection for Muslims across the globe. While Saudi Arabia and the UAE expect the crescent to be sighted on February 28, India expects it on March 1. Travelers, the sick, very old persons, and pregnant women are exempted from fasting. The month then closes with Eid al-Fitr celebrations. As the dates may differ in slightly different locations, Muslims are, however, advised to adhere to local announcements on the official beginning of Ramadan.
