Shubhanshu Shukla’s Historic Return from Space
Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla is set to start his journey back to Earth today after an 18-day mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). As the pilot of the Axiom-4 mission, Shukla became the first Indian to visit the ISS and only the second Indian in space since 1984. The SpaceX Dragon capsule, carrying Shukla and three international crewmates, is scheduled to undock from the ISS at 4:30 pm IST. Splashdown is expected off the California coast around 3:00 pm IST on July 15.
During his stay, Shukla and the Ax-4 crew completed over 60 scientific experiments, including the Sprouts Project, which studied seed germination in microgravity.
The mission returned with more than 580 pounds of research samples and equipment.
Upon return, Shukla will undergo a week-long rehabilitation to readjust to Earth’s gravity.
His family in Lucknow is preparing a grand welcome, expressing pride in his achievements and the inspiration he brings to India’s space ambitions.
