IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is set for a major leap in capacity and network reach, announcing the addition of 80 new aircraft by early FY26—a move that will double its typical annual fleet growth and reinforce its dominance in both domestic and international skies.
Key Highlights:
Fleet Expansion at Record Pace: IndiGo plans to add nearly 80 aircraft to its fleet by early FY26, a sharp increase from its usual 40-plane annual growth. This includes reactivating grounded planes as engine supply issues ease, and welcoming new deliveries at a rate of more than one aircraft per week.
Restoring Grounded Planes: Around 40 previously grounded aircraft—affected by Pratt & Whitney engine issues—will return to service, with 30 rejoining operations and 10 being returned to lessors as leases expire.
Network and Destination Growth: The airline is set to launch 14 new destinations in FY26, expanding its footprint to 131 cities (91 domestic, 40 international) and further strengthening its global ambitions.
International Push: IndiGo is ramping up its international presence, aiming to boost its international capacity share to 40% by 2030 (from 28% currently). New long-haul routes, including Europe, will be supported by the arrival of Airbus A321XLRs and additional Boeing 787s.
Passenger and Revenue Growth: IndiGo flew 113 million passengers in 2024, a 10% year-on-year rise, and expects low double-digit growth in both passenger traffic and capacity for FY26.
Financial Strength: The airline ended FY25 with a robust free cash balance and declared a ₹10 per share dividend, reflecting its strong financial health.
Potential Fare Relief: The increased capacity could help ease elevated airfares, though analysts note that much of the new capacity will be deployed on international routes, so domestic fare relief may be modest.
With over 600 aircraft targeted by 2030 and a bold global vision, IndiGo’s aggressive fleet and network expansion cements its status as a powerhouse in Indian and international aviation.
