In a strong bid to re-stoke its base and counter internal woes, the Indian National Congress is rolling out a comprehensive revitalization drive in Madhya Pradesh. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will himself launch the 'Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan' (Organisational Creation Campaign) in Bhopal on June 3, a fresh start for the party to refurbish its grassroot machinery and consolidate its base in the state.
Campaign Launch and Leadership
Date and Location: Rahul Gandhi will set the campaign rolling in Bhopal on June 3, 2025, on a day-long trip.
Objective: To restore the organisational structure of the Congress party from the booth level upwards, with emphasis on grassroots mobilisation and internal cohesion.
Meetings and Strategy
Series of Meetings: Gandhi will preside over meetings with the state Working Committee, Executive Committee, Political Affairs Committee, and district presidents.
Role of Observers: He will address 50 observers nominated by the AICC, comprising MPs, MLAs, and retired ministers, who will evaluate party strengths and weaknesses in every one of Madhya Pradesh's 230 Assembly constituencies.
Internal Reorganization: Observers will spot strong candidates to hold district president positions with focus on ideological commitment, leadership, and people's connect.
Party Renewal and Future Strategy
New Leadership: The campaign follows the party's transfer of state leadership to second-generation leaders, with Jitu Patwari as the state Congress chief and Umang Singhar as the leader of Congress Legislature Party.
Action Against Internal Issues: Action will be strict against party members conspiring with opposition parties to regain party credibility.
Target Groups: The campaign focuses on re-establishing contact with youths, farmers, and workers, activating the booth-level machinery of the party.
Model and Expansion: The campaign is based on a model already successfully run in Gujarat, with Madhya Pradesh being the second state to use this revolutionary campaign.
Political Context
Political Challenges in the Recent Past: Congress has suffered consistent electoral defeats, including the BJP's clean sweep of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and a loss in the 2023 Assembly polls.
Strategic Timing: Rahul Gandhi’s visit comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega event in the state, highlighting the party’s intent to regain momentum.
