Retro Rolls In ₹20 Cr on Day 1, But Kanguva Still Steals the Show

Suriya's highly anticipated film, Retro, hit screens on May 1, 2025, and has raked in an opening day box office collection of approximately ₹20 crore. Although the opening was spectacular, it could not surpass the actor's previous release Kanguva's first-day box office collection of ₹24 crore.

 

Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, has garnered positive response from critics for the performances of Suriya and Pooja Hegde. The movie is produced by Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment and is playing in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

 

Despite not beating Kanguva's day one numbers, Retro has still gone on to emerge as one of the top Tamil openers of 2025. The film had decent advance bookings, raking in over ₹5 crore, and has opened to positive word-of-mouth.
