The Delhi government is set to roll out a new air-conditioned electric bus service aimed at enhancing the tourism experience for both domestic and international visitors. This initiative will offer evening tours connecting the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalya (Prime Minister Museum) at Teen Murti Bhavan and the National War Memorial at India Gate, two of the city’s most iconic landmarks.
Key Highlights:
The AC electric bus service will begin by mid-July, with evening tours starting from the Prime Minister Museum after its 6 pm closure and proceeding to the National War Memorial.
The buses will be nine meters long, hired from the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), and feature a distinctive color scheme for easy identification.
Each bus will have a dedicated tourist guide onboard to provide historical and cultural insights about the sites visited.
Ticket pricing is set at ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children aged 6 to 12.
The initiative is part of a broader plan to develop a new tourist circuit in Delhi, covering major landmarks such as the War Memorial, Kartavya Path, Prime Minister Museum, and the New Parliament House.
The buses may also be used for school picnics in the mornings, in collaboration with the Directorate of Education.
The government had previously considered reviving the Hop-on Hop-off (HoHo) bus model, discontinued in 2020 due to the pandemic, but found it unsuitable for Delhi’s traffic conditions.
Themed tours and additional routes to other tourist destinations are under consideration, with feedback from the public to shape future expansions.
This move is expected to make Delhi’s historical and cultural sites more accessible and engaging, while also supporting the city’s push towards sustainable, electric public transport.
