Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated World Environment Day by planting a sapling in Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi, reaffirming the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. It is part of the larger Aravalli Green Wall Project, which seeks to revive the 700-km-long Aravalli range cutting across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi.

Major Developments and Vision

The program aims to fight desertification, reduce dust storms, and replenish groundwater levels in the environmentally sensitive Aravalli area.

The Aravalli Green Wall Program will also provide a natural wall against desertification, arresting the Thar Desert's eastward march.

The government intends to geo-tag plantation activities and track them through the Meri LiFE portal to ensure transparency and accountability.

Strategic Environmental Impact

The Aravalli range has 22 wildlife sanctuaries and four tiger reserves, namely Ranthambore, Sariska, Ramgarh-Vishdhari, and Mukunda Hills.

The project will restore degraded forest, increase the fertility of soil, and increase climate resilience.

New methods will be adopted for urban and semi-urban afforestation, which will solve the space problem.

Government's Commitment and Public Participation

The PM asked youth to participate, inviting citizens to engage actively towards India's green cover.

The program will create 1,000 permanent nurseries to augment reforestation drives.

Satellite mapping will be used to monitor progress and maintain efficiency.

Future Plans and Expansion Across the Country

Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign has gone beyond Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 and is targeting plantation of 10 crore trees in India.

The campaign combines personal memorials with green activism, creating lasting ecological and emotional resonance.

Leaders from states such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Bihar have also rallied behind the movement, upholding India's commitment towards sustainability.
