Kolkata: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started their IPL 2025 campaign on a high note, securing a dominant seven-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens.
Chasing a target of 175, RCB's batting lineup looked in top form, with Virat Kohli leading the charge. The former captain remained unbeaten at 59 off 36 balls, anchoring the chase alongside Rajat Patidar, who played a fiery cameo of 34 runs in just 16 balls. Earlier, Philip Salt set the tone with a blistering 56 off 31 deliveries before being dismissed by Varun Chakravarthy.
Despite KKR bowlers trying to fight back, RCB's aggressive approach saw them cruise to victory in just 16.2 overs, finishing at 177/3. Vaibhav Arora, Chakravarthy, and Sunil Narine managed a wicket each but struggled to contain the opposition's onslaught.
Earlier in the match, KKR posted 174/8 in their 20 overs, with notable contributions from their top order. However, RCB’s disciplined bowling effort restricted them from setting a bigger target.
With this win, RCB starts the tournament with confidence, while KKR will look to bounce back in their upcoming games.
