In an effort to strengthen Uttar Pradesh's higher education landscape, the state government sanctioned two new private universities: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ramayan University in Ayodhya and Ajay Kumar Garg University in Ghaziabad. The step is according to the Yogi Adityanath government's broader vision for education becoming more accessible, inclusive, and innovative.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ramayan University has been formally notified under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2025, while Ajay Kumar Garg University has been issued a Letter of Intent under Section 6 of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019.

Strategic Vision
State Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyay emphasized that the project reflects the government's commitment to ushering in modernization in education in the form of private-sector participation, regional accessibility, and infrastructure development.
"These new institutions are a step towards making Uttar Pradesh a leader in higher education," Upadhyay said.
