Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and ABB India have entered a groundbreaking digital transformation partnership to elevate the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) into a next-generation smart manufacturing hub. As SAIL targets a near-doubling of RSP’s output to 9 million tonnes by 2030, this collaboration will leverage advanced digital twin technology and data-driven optimization to unlock new levels of productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.

Digital Twin Technology: SAIL and ABB India have signed an MoU to develop and deploy advanced digital twin models for RSP’s blast furnaces and steel melting shops. This technology will enable real-time simulation, monitoring, and optimization of steelmaking processes, reducing downtime and improving product quality.
AI-Driven Process Optimization: The partnership will focus on building mathematical and data-based models to optimize iron-making, steelmaking, and raw material preparation.
