Swipe Smart: SBI Card Revises Fees from November 1—Here’s What’s Changing
SBI Card, one of India’s largest credit card issuers, has announced a revision in its fees and charges, effective November 1, 2025. The update introduces new transaction-specific charges while retaining existing service fees. Cardholders are advised to review these changes to avoid surprises on their billing statements.
Key Changes in SBI Card Fees and Charges:
1% Fee on Education-Related Payments
A 1% charge will apply to education-related payments made through third-party platforms such as payment apps or aggregators.
No fee will be levied if the payment is made directly on the school, college, or university’s official website or via POS terminals.
1% Fee on Wallet Loads Above ₹1,000
Loading money into digital wallets (e.g., Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay) using an SBI credit card will now attract a 1% fee, applicable only on transactions exceeding ₹1,000.
This aims to curb misuse of credit cards for indirect cash withdrawals.
Card Replacement and Reissue Charges
The card replacement fee remains unchanged at ₹100 plus applicable taxes.
Charges for reissuing PINs or physical statements also remain the same.
Late Payment and Overlimit Fees
No changes have been made to late payment charges, which are slab-based depending on the outstanding amount.
Overlimit fees continue to be 2.5% of the overlimit amount, subject to a minimum of ₹600.
EMI Conversion and Processing Fees
EMI conversion charges at the point of sale or post-purchase remain unchanged.
Processing fees for EMI transactions continue to be ₹199 to ₹599, depending on the merchant and tenure.
What Cardholders Should Do
Review your monthly statements carefully starting November.
Use official portals for education payments to avoid extra charges.
Avoid loading large wallet amounts via credit card unless necessary.
These updates reflect SBI Card’s effort to align transaction costs with usage patterns while encouraging responsible credit behavior.
