The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is to host its 25th Heads of State Council meeting in Tianjin, China, on August 31-September 1, 2025. The rotating chair, China, is to host leaders of ten member states to chart the future of the bloc amidst shifting global dynamics.
Key Points:
- There will be a Foreign Ministers' meeting prior to the summit in Tianjin, in which the basis for decisions and for strategy documents will be laid.
- Member countries include China, India, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and newly admitted Belarus.
- Notable leaders include Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin, Narendra Modi, Masoud Pezeshkian, and Shehbaz Sharif, among others.
Strategic Agenda:
- Agenda will include regional security, the fight against terrorism, economic cooperation, as well as information connectivity under the slogan "Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move."

- The summit will also reflect on the development of SCO since its establishment in 2001 and look at the lines of expansion of observer states and dialogue partners.

- Tianjin host city selection highlights China's ambitions to propel its northern economic belt and diplomatic initiatives.
- The summit will be preceded by a large-scale military parade in Beijing on September 3 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.
