The East London boy who had the bend down a little bit like no one else ever could has been officially knighted. International football legend and philanthropist David Beckham has been knighted by King Charles III in the King's Birthday Honours List for his extraordinary services to sport and charity.

The 50-year-old ex-England skipper, who was awarded an OBE in 2003, is now "Sir David Beckham"—a much-awaited title that fans and colleagues are rejoicing around the world.

Beckham's dazzling football career encompassed clubs including Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain and came with 115 England caps, of which he was captain for 59. Off the field, he has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2005, and more lately, an ambassador for The King's Foundation, supporting education and community initiatives.

Speaking in a poignant statement, Beckham stated: > "From being raised in East London with patriotic parents and grandparents, I never thought I would be awarded such a humble honor. It's an emotional time to share with my family I am proud of."

The knighthood not only establishes Beckham as a sporting great, but it also positions him for increased influence in diplomatic, charitable, and cultural settings. Victoria Beckham, his wife, can now officially be known as Lady Beckham, adding a regal twist to the already mythic couple.
