If you’re thinking about a career move or just curious about where the job market is heading, here’s something big: almost every company in India plans to hire for generative AI (GenAI) roles next year. This is happening even though there aren’t nearly enough skilled people to fill all those positions.

Here’s what’s going on:

According to a new survey, 99% of Indian companies say they’ll be hiring for GenAI roles in 2025. That’s almost everyone, from big banks to startups.

There’s a real shortage of talent. For some jobs, there’s just one qualified candidate for every ten openings. That means if you have the right skills, you’re in high demand.

Companies are rethinking what they look for in new hires. They’re more interested in people with hands-on GenAI skills—even if they’re less experienced—than those with traditional backgrounds but no AI exposure.

The hottest jobs are Data Scientists, Machine Learning Engineers, AI Developers, and AI Product Managers. If you know Python, TensorFlow, or have experience with NLP and cloud platforms, you’ll stand out.

Salaries are going up fast. Entry-level GenAI professionals can expect ₹8–12 lakh per year, and those with a few years’ experience can make ₹25–35 lakh.

While Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Hyderabad are still the main hubs, cities like Kochi and Ahmedabad are starting to catch up.

Both the government and companies are investing in training programs to help more people get the skills they need.

If you’re interested in GenAI, now’s a great time to start learning.
