In a move that could redefine India’s event infrastructure landscape, Exhicon Events Media Solutions Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India Exposition Mart Ltd (IEML) to jointly identify and develop convention centers across Tier-2 cities in India. This strategic partnership aims to decentralize the country’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) ecosystem, bringing world-class venues to emerging urban hubs.

The collaboration between Exhicon and IEML is expected to catalyze the growth of regional business tourism, create employment opportunities, and support local economies by positioning Tier-2 cities as viable destinations for national and international events.

Building Beyond Metros: A Vision for Inclusive Infrastructure
Historically, India’s convention and exhibition infrastructure has been concentrated in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. However, with rising urbanization and economic activity in Tier-2 cities such as Indore, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Surat, and Lucknow, the demand for modern event venues is surging.

The MoU outlines a joint framework for identifying strategic locations, assessing land availability, and evaluating the commercial viability of setting up convention centers. The goal is to create a network of state-of-the-art venues that meet international standards while being tailored to local needs.

Speaking on the partnership, Amit Sharma, CEO of Exhicon Events, stated:

“This collaboration with IEML is a game-changer. We’re not just building venues—we’re building ecosystems. Tier-2 cities are brimming with potential, and it’s time we gave them the infrastructure to host the world.”

Why IEML?
India Exposition Mart Ltd, based in Greater Noida, is one of the country’s premier venue operators, known for hosting large-scale trade fairs, expos, and conventions. Their expertise in venue management, logistics, and stakeholder coordination makes them an ideal partner for Exhicon’s ambitious expansion strategy.

IEML’s Chairman, Rakesh Kumar, echoed the sentiment:

“We believe in democratizing access to world-class event infrastructure. By partnering with Exhicon, we’re extending our legacy to cities that have long been overlooked but are now ready to shine.”

Economic Impact and Strategic Importance
The development of convention centers in Tier-2 cities is expected to have a multiplier effect on local economies. These venues will attract business travelers, exhibitors, and tourists, boosting demand for hotels, transport, catering, and ancillary services. Moreover, they will provide platforms for SMEs, startups, and regional industries to showcase their offerings on a national stage.

According to industry estimates, India’s MICE sector is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8.5% over the next five years, with Tier-2 cities contributing significantly to this expansion. The Exhicon-IEML partnership is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend.

Sustainability and Smart Design
Both companies have emphasized their commitment to sustainability. The proposed convention centers will incorporate green building practices, renewable energy solutions, and smart technologies for energy management, waste reduction, and digital connectivity.

Exhicon’s recent projects have already demonstrated their focus on eco-conscious design, including solar-powered lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, and zero-waste event protocols.

What’s Next?
The MoU sets the stage for a detailed feasibility study, which will begin in Q4 2025. The first phase will focus on identifying 5–7 Tier-2 cities with high growth potential and favorable policy environments. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2026, with the first venues operational by 2027.

The partnership also opens doors for public-private collaborations, with both companies expressing interest in working with state governments, tourism boards, and urban development authorities to accelerate approvals and funding.
