In a continent-wide survey conducted by Time Out’s City Life Index 2025, Mumbai emerged as Asia’s happiest city, with an overwhelming 94% of residents saying the city makes them happy. The survey, which polled over 18,000 people across major Asian cities, assessed factors like culture, food, nightlife, and quality of life.
Despite its chaotic pace and urban challenges, Mumbai’s vibrant social fabric, street food culture, and community spirit helped it clinch the top spot. Residents cited simple pleasures—from Marine Drive sunsets to local festivals—as key contributors to their happiness.
Beijing and Shanghai follow closely
Beijing and Shanghai ranked second and third respectively, with 93% and 92% of locals reporting high happiness levels. Both cities scored well on infrastructure, cultural richness, and public engagement, reflecting China’s growing urban optimism.
