Indian Railways, in partnership with CONCOR, has launched the country’s first assured transit time container train service between Delhi and Kolkata. Operational from October 1, this train promises a guaranteed delivery within 120 hours, marking a transformative milestone in Indian logistics.
Key Highlights Of The Service
The container train runs bi-weekly, departing every Wednesday and Saturday from ICD Tughlakabad, Delhi, to CTCS Kolkata via Agra and Kanpur.
A hub-and-spoke cargo model at Agra and Kanpur allows efficient aggregation, serving a wider industrial catchment area.
Customers benefit from waived empty wagon haulage charges between Tughlakabad and Kanpur, reducing logistics costs.
The initiative aims to offer a reliable and cost-effective alternative to road freight, enhancing supply chain predictability and sustainability.
This service supports India’s green logistics goals by encouraging modal shift from road to rail, significantly lowering carbon emissions.
The train service is expected to be a game-changer for sectors requiring time-bound delivery, such as perishables, pharmaceuticals, and exports, bolstering India’s freight efficiency and economic growth.
