SpiceJet plans to double its operational fleet and nearly triple available seat kilometers by April 2026. The airline aims to bring up to eight grounded Boeing aircraft back into service, restructure significant liabilities, and improve profitability through higher capacity and better aircraft utilization.
Indian airline SpiceJet announced ambitious plans to significantly expand its operational capacity by April 2026. The company is targeting to increase its active fleet from around 21 aircraft in late 2025 to nearly double that by April 2026, with a focus on reactivating up to eight grounded Boeing aircraft.
This fleet expansion will bolster available seat kilometers by almost three times, allowing SpiceJet to ramp up flight frequencies and introduce new domestic and international routes. The airline recently secured lease agreements for 10 Boeing 737 aircraft on damp lease and is advancing discussions for additional narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.
On the financial front, SpiceJet expects to restructure a significant part of its liabilities in Q3 and Q4 FY26, aiming to stabilize its balance sheet. Enhanced aircraft utilization and higher capacity deployment are anticipated to improve the cost per available seat kilometer (CASK), leading to better overall profitability.
With growing travel demand and strategic fleet management, SpiceJet positions itself for a strong market comeback.
