Ghaziabad Railway Station, one of Uttar Pradesh’s busiest transit hubs, is undergoing a dramatic transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, with a massive ₹337 crore redevelopment project now in motion. Built in 1865, the station currently handles over 50,000 passengers daily and sees nearly 200 trains pass through each day.
Key Highlights:
-
The station will be converted into a threestorey complex with modern amenities, including escalators, automatic ticket vending machines, and multilevel parking.
-
New Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) will improve passenger flow and safety, while a signal training school and 96 railway quarters are also part of the plan.
-
The project began in January 2023, with 25% of the work completed so far. Construction is being executed in phases to minimize disruption.
-
Delays have occurred due to DelhiNCR’s air quality restrictions, which temporarily halted construction under the Graded Response Action Plan.
-
The station’s strategic location has prompted local demands for additional train stoppages, including the Shramik Shakti Express, which currently bypasses Ghaziabad
Outlook:
Once completed, the revamped Ghaziabad station will not only ease congestion but also offer a worldclass commuter experience, aligning with Indian Railways’ broader vision of modern, accessible, and sustainable infrastructure.
