Tata Steel has announced a big goal for the future: the company wants to produce 15 million tonnes of steel each year using recycled materials within the next 10 to 15 years. CEO T V Narendran shared this vision as part of Tata Steel’s push toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing.
Here’s what this means:
Tata Steel is planning to invest in new recycling facilities and technology to turn scrap steel into usable products. This is a shift from the traditional way of making steel, which relies heavily on raw materials and uses a lot of energy.
Recycling steel isn’t just good for business; it’s also better for the environment. It uses less energy and helps cut down on carbon emissions, which is a big part of Tata Steel’s long-term plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Narendran pointed out that moving to a circular economy—where materials are reused and recycled as much as possible—is the way forward for the steel industry.
The company is also looking at working with other partners to improve how scrap steel is collected and processed across India.
This focus on recycling will help Tata Steel stay competitive and support India’s broader goals for sustainability.
Alongside recycling, Tata Steel is also exploring new green technologies, like using hydrogen and electric arc furnaces, to make steel production even cleaner.
It’s a big challenge, but Tata Steel seems committed to making recycled steel a major part of its future.
