Fujifilm Corporation signed a major Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tata Electronics to develop a strong semiconductor materials manufacturing and supply chain in India. This alliance is a part of India's ambitious agenda to localize production of semiconductors and cut down the dependence on imports, as the nation quickly evolves into a worldwide tech manufacturing powerhouse.
Under the deal, Fujifilm will aid Tata Electronics-inducing the development of India's first semiconductor front-end factory at Dholera, Gujarat, and a large back-end complex in Jagiroad, Assam-by creating and providing sophisticated semiconductor materials specifically suited to India's burgeoning requirements. Fujifilm also plans to establish its own manufacturing unit in India and procure raw materials locally, further inducing the local supply chain.
This partnership is likely to spur India's semiconductor business to $64 billion by 2026 and induce job generation, technology transfer, and innovation. Fujifilm's vast experience with photoresists, photolithography materials, CMP slurries, and high-purity chemicals will be critical in aiding Tata Electronics' business and the Indian semiconductor ecosystem at large.
With the new plant construction set to commence as early as 2026 and operations planned for 2028, the tie-up represents a turning point in India's drive toward semiconductor independence.
