Strawberry growers in Satara district are preparing for huge economic losses as unusually hot temperatures heavily affected crop production. Severe heat, with heatwaves starting at 10 am itself, is hitting strawberries in their final stage of growth. Right through February, the region has had temperatures going up to 35-36 degrees Celsius routinely, affecting daily life and agri-processes. The harsh weather is also making strawberries ripen early, which could result in lower yields and quality. The climate crisis is endangering the livelihood of local farmers and could have a ripple effect on the agricultural economy of the region.
