Switzerland’s State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Helene Budliger Artieda, has reaffirmed India’s status as a preferred business hub for Swiss industries, citing its robust democracy, vast consumer base, and strong economic growth. Speaking during Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Switzerland, Artieda emphasized that Swiss companies see immense potential in India’s evolving market.
A key highlight of the discussions was the EFTA-India trade agreement, which is expected to unlock $100 billion in Swiss investments over the next 15 years. The deal, ratified by Liechtenstein, Norway, and Iceland, is awaiting Switzerland’s final approval, with expectations that it will be fully ratified by October 2025.
Artieda praised India’s efforts in poverty alleviation, noting that the country’s expanding middle class presents new opportunities for Swiss businesses, particularly in sectors like luxury goods, technology, and manufacturing. She also highlighted the record turnout of over 1,500 Swiss business leaders at an industry event, reflecting growing enthusiasm for India’s market.
With the EFTA trade pact set to take effect on October 1, Swiss firms are gearing up to expand operations, create one million jobs, and strengthen bilateral trade ties. The agreement is expected to streamline investment processes, making India an even more attractive destination for Swiss enterprises.
