Tata Steel Delivers Solid Q1 Performance; NINL Reboots, G Furnace Reline Nears Completion

Tata Steel Ltd has reported a steady operational performance for Q1 FY26, with Tata Steel India producing 5.26 million tonnes of crude steel and delivering 4.75 million tonnes to customers. The quarter also saw key developments in its long products strategy and infrastructure upgrades.
 
Production and Delivery Highlights
  • Crude steel output stood at 5.26 million tonnes, marginally up from 5.25 million tonnes in Q1 FY25
  • Deliveries reached 4.75 million tonnes, slightly lower than the previous year’s 4.94 million tonnes due to planned maintenance
  • Automotive & Special Products segment saw resilient demand, while branded retail products maintained strong momentum
Strategic Operations Update
  • Tata Steel resumed operations at Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL), which had been acquired in 2022 and is now operating at rated capacity
  • NINL posted Rs. 1,000 crore EBITDA in FY25, with plans to expand capacity from 1.1 MTPA to 5.5 MTPA underway
  • The reline of the G Blast Furnace at Jamshedpur is expected to be completed by July 2025, enhancing output efficiency and reducing emissions
Market Outlook and Expansion Plans
  • Tata Steel continues to invest in capacity expansion, including the Ludhiana EAF plant and PhaseII of Kalinganagar
  • The company remains focused on ESG goals, with over 90% of Indian steel production now from ResponsibleSteelcertified sites
  • Analysts expect Q2 performance to benefit from improved domestic demand and completion of furnace upgrades
