Assam is all geared to revolutionize regional connectivity with its ambitious ₹25,000 crore Guwahati-Umiam-Silchar Expressway project. Unveiled by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the four-lane expressway will reduce travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from 10-12 hours to just 4 hours. One of the key parts of a broader ₹1 lakh crore infrastructure drive, the project seeks to spur economic growth and enhance connectivity to industrial centers such as Panchgram. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari approved the expressway as part of an ₹80,000 crore Northeast infrastructure investment. India's first expressway in the Northeast, this transformative highway will transform travel and business in the region.
