Tripura is poised for a major agricultural and industrial leap as the state government has signed a transformative Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Patanjali Foods Limited, aiming to make the state a hub for palm oil production and allied agro-industries.

Key Highlights:

Massive Expansion in Palm Oil Cultivation: Patanjali Foods plans to expand oil palm cultivation across 10,000 hectares in Tripura over the next two years. The company has already acquired 30 hectares to establish an integrated facility that will include a processing mill, nursery, demonstration plantation, and a dedicated training center for farmers. The project is set to commence within three months.

Boost to Farmer Income and Rural Employment: The initiative is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, uplift rural livelihoods, and significantly increase farmer earnings. Local farmers will receive high-quality seedlings, technical training, and access to modern agricultural practices, ensuring sustainable and profitable cultivation.

Strategic National Mission: This partnership is a flagship move under the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), designed to reduce India’s reliance on imported edible oils. Tripura’s favorable climate and available land make it an ideal candidate for large-scale palm oil cultivation.

Industrial and Economic Growth: Patanjali will set up a palm oil processing unit in Tripura, with plans to branch into bamboo and horticulture product markets, further diversifying the state’s agro-industrial base. This is expected to spur new investments and position Tripura as a key player in India’s edible oil sector.

Government and Industry Optimism: Chief Minister Manik Saha hailed the MoU as a “game-changer” for Tripura’s agricultural economy, while Patanjali’s leadership emphasized their commitment to self-reliance and farmer welfare.

With this ambitious collaboration, Tripura is set to emerge as a model state for sustainable agricultural development, rural prosperity, and industrial growth.
