Agartala, 5 April, 2025: Patanjali Foods has unveiled a grand vision to develop 10,000 hectares of oil palm in Tripura within the next two years. The plan is to enhance local production, provide sustainable livelihood for farmers, and make Tripura a major palm oil hub in India.
The firm has already purchased 30 hectares of land in Tripura to establish an integrated facility with a processing mill, sapling nursery, demo plantation, and farmer training center. Ashok Kumar Singh, Patanjali Foods Northeast region Head, stressed that the climatic conditions of Tripura are suitable for palm oil cultivation. The integrated center is likely to be functional within three months.
Farmers from different districts recently took part in a recent workshop organized by Patanjali, where they were exposed to large-scale oil palm cultivation strategies. The program is in tandem with the National Mission on Edible Oils – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) to ensure self-reliance of edible oil production alongside import dependence reduction.
Palm oil farming provides substantial advantages in the form of round-the-year employment, additional income opportunities due to intercropping, and lower labor demands. The farmers will also be subsidized by the government under NMEO-OP for seedlings, irrigation facilities, and technical assistance. With a projected income of ₹4–5 lakh per hectare, this project has the potential to boost the agricultural economy of Tripura.
Patanjali’s efforts underscore its commitment to transforming the Northeast into a palm oil production powerhouse while ensuring sustainable growth for local communities.
