The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi is set to transform the often-neglected spaces beneath flyovers into lively public amenities, aiming to convert these underutilized areas from dumping grounds into community assets. This ambitious plan covers 93 key flyovers across the city, targeting large vacant stretches between flyover abutments for thoughtful redesign.
Key Design And Development Insights
The PWD is hiring consultants to prepare detailed project reports with innovative, sustainable designs tailored to each location’s unique character.
Planned amenities include vending zones, shaded waiting areas, toilets, sports pockets, urban gardens, and community parks.
Revenue models involving parking fees, kiosks, and advertising are expected to fund maintenance and upkeep sustainably.
Urban Renewal And Community Focus
Selected flyovers include major corridors like Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi, and Anand Vihar, with stretches ranging from 1.4 to 2.8 kilometers.
Several spaces already repurposed as parks or offices serve as models to expand this initiative.
The project aims to foster community interaction, enhance urban greenery, and replace eyesores with spaces that elevate city life and support social and economic growth.
This forward-looking initiative will redefine how Delhiites engage with urban infrastructure, turning forgotten flyover zones into thriving public hubs.
