In a significant move that could reshape regional trade dynamics, the Middle East’s largest steel producer has urged the Indian government to grant greater market access to Iranian companies. The appeal comes amid ongoing challenges faced by Iranian firms due to international sanctions, which have restricted their ability to participate in global markets.

The steel major emphasized that facilitating Iranian access to the Indian market would not only strengthen bilateral economic ties but also help stabilize the steel supply chain across Asia. Iranian companies, already among the top producers of direct-reduced iron (DRI) in the region, are seeking to expand their footprint and leverage India’s vast demand for steel and related products. Industry insiders note that Iran’s steel sector has continued to grow, with production rising despite sanctions, and that greater integration with the Indian market could be mutually beneficial.

This call aligns with recent requests from Iranian businesses and trade bodies, who have appealed to India and global organizations to play a constructive role in easing trade restrictions and restoring fair market access. As India weighs its strategic and economic interests, the decision could have far-reaching implications for regional commerce and energy cooperation.
