In a bold move to cement its footprint in South Asia, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchisor, has announced plans to add over 50 new hotels across India, signaling its intent to make the country one of its top global markets. The expansion, revealed on July 13, 2025, includes the introduction of new brands and strategic alliances aimed at tapping into India’s booming tourism and hospitality sectors.

What’s in the Pipeline?
  • Wyndham currently operates 70+ hotels in India and is on track to cross 100 properties in the near future.
  • The company has signed a 10-year strategic alliance with Cygnett Hotels & Resorts to introduce La Quinta by Wyndham and Registry Collection Hotels to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.
  • Wyndham’s portfolio includes 25 brands, such as Super 8, Days Inn, Microtel, and Trademark Collection, with plans to bring more of these to India.
Why India?
  • Wyndham executives highlighted India’s enormous tourism potential, citing the need for better international flight connectivity and streamlined visa processes to attract global travelers.
  • The company sees strong growth in mid-scale and extended-stay segments, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, aligning with India’s infrastructure boom.
  • Wyndham is also exploring branded residences and hostel-style accommodations, inspired by successful models in Europe.
Leadership Commentary

“India is not just a market—it’s a movement. We’re sprinting toward growth here,” said Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director for Eurasia. “We want to bring more brands, but also grow the ones we already have,” added Dimitris Manikis, President for EMEA, emphasizing Wyndham’s long-term commitment.

Looking Ahead
With over 9,300 hotels globally, Wyndham’s India expansion is part of a broader strategy to localize global hospitality while empowering regional developers through its franchise-first model. The first La Quinta by Wyndham hotel under the new alliance is expected to open in 2026, co-branded under Anamore, Cygnett’s luxury label.
