The Delhi Cabinet has approved an ordinance to regulate private school fees, aiming to curb sudden hikes and bring transparency to the system. The Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Ordinance, 2025 will require schools to justify any fee increases, ensuring parents aren’t blindsided by unexpected costs.

	What’s Changing?
	-
Fee hikes must be justified—schools can’t raise fees arbitrarily.
-
A threetier oversight system will be set up, including schoollevel committees, district appellate bodies, and a statelevel revision committee to handle disputes.
-
The ordinance applies retroactively from April 1, 2025, meaning parents who paid excessive fees earlier this year may be eligible for relief.
-
Schools violating the rules could face fines from ₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
-
Education Minister Ashish Sood called it a longoverdue step to protect families from financial exploitation.
The ordinance now heads to President Droupadi Murmu for approval before becoming law. Parents and education activists have welcomed the move, calling it a major win for fairness in school fee structures.
