PM Modi Reveals Bohra Community’s Pivotal Role in Waqf Act Shake-Up—Down to the Last Full Stop

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the Dawoodi Bohra community for their meticulous involvement in shaping the landmark Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, highlighting that their input extended “even down to commas and full stops.” Addressing a delegation led by Bohra spiritual leader Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, Modi revealed that Syedna Saifuddin was the first person he consulted when considering reforms to the Waqf law. The Prime Minister praised the Bohra community for providing legal expertise and detailed feedback throughout the drafting process, ensuring the Act addressed even the smallest technicalities.

The Dawoodi Bohra delegation expressed gratitude, noting the Act fulfilled their long-standing demands, including exemptions from certain Waqf regulations that had posed challenges for decades. Modi emphasized that a key motivation behind the amendment was to end the suffering of women, especially widows, who faced hardships under the previous system. The new law aims to streamline Waqf property management, enhance transparency, and empower honest caretakers, with a focus on justice for the most vulnerable.

The meeting underscored the government’s vision of inclusive development and acknowledged the Bohra community’s tradition of social welfare and constructive engagement in national reforms.
