Ring Of Fire: Kavita Devi’s Trailblazing Journey Heads To The Big Screen

The project is currently in the writing stage, with the producers having acquired Kavita Devi’s life rights to tell her story authentically. From local akharas and weightlifting medals to WWE’s Mae Young Classic, the movie aims to showcase how a woman from rural India broke into a fiercely competitive, male-dominated global arena and inspired a new generation of female wrestlers.  

Story Behind India’s First Female WWE Wrestler  

Kavita Devi, born Kavita Dalal in Malvi village in Jind district, Haryana, first made headlines when she became the first Indian woman to wrestle in WWE. A former weightlifter and police constable, she transitioned into professional wrestling, training with The Great Khali’s promotion before earning a WWE developmental contract. The biopic will trace this journey, including the personal sacrifices, social pushback and family support that kept her going.  

Where The Biopic Project Stands Now  

According to the producers, the script is still being developed, and casting will be finalised once the writing is complete. The team has indicated that the film will be mounted on a grand scale, with an emphasis on authenticity in training sequences, in-ring action and Kavita’s emotional arc. While no release timeline has been announced yet, the project is positioned as a mainstream Hindi biopic in the tradition of Dangal and Mary Kom.
