Safeguarding Culture in the AI Era: Egypt Pushes for Ethical Standards at Global Media Dialogue

Egypt has called for international cooperation to establish ethical guidelines for artificial intelligence in arts and culture, emphasizing the need to protect heritage and ensure content authenticity. Speaking at the Global Media Dialogue during the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai, Egypt’s Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hanno highlighted the risks AI poses to cultural integrity and collective memory.  

Hanno stressed that while digital transformation has democratized content creation, it also brings challenges such as misinformation, historical distortion, and the potential loss of cultural identity. He urged global vigilance and regulatory frameworks to prevent AI from falsifying cultural narratives.  

The minister praised India’s role in hosting the summit, noting that its rich cultural heritage makes it an ideal platform for discussions on AI’s impact on creative industries. He also underscored Egypt’s commitment to youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and the safeguarding of tangible and intangible heritage.  

The Global Media Dialogue, hosted by India for the first time, saw participation from 25 countries, marking a milestone in global media and entertainment collaboration. WAVES 2025 featured over 10,000 delegates, 1,000 creators, and 350 startups, with discussions spanning broadcasting, infotainment, films, and digital media.
