Social Media Platforms Must Share Revenue Fairly With Content Creators: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has called for a more equitable digital ecosystem, stressing that social media platforms must share revenue fairly with content creators. Addressing the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) Conclave 2026, he underlined that creators-whether journalists, media houses, or independent digital voices-deserve a rightful share of the revenue generated from their content.  

Vaishnaw noted that platforms have evolved beyond neutral intermediaries and must now take responsibility for the content they host. He cautioned against the misuse of synthetic content and emphasized the importance of mandatory user consent for AI-generated material. The minister also highlighted the growing need for accountability in safeguarding user safety and preventing cyber fraud.
