Squeaky Clean or Dirty Deal? Delhi's Shocking Move Against Car Wash Soaps

In a groundbreaking initiative to clean up the Yamuna River, the Delhi government is set to prohibit the use of soaps and detergents in car washes. Water Minister Parvesh Verma announced that these products, containing harmful phosphates and surfactants, significantly contribute to river pollution. The ban aims to reduce chemical runoff into the city's drainage system. Before implementation, an awareness campaign will educate residents about the environmental impact of car wash products. As an alternative, the government plans to establish car wash centers near sewage treatment plants, offering affordable services using treated water. This move is part of a larger strategy to fulfill the BJP's election promise of a cleaner Yamuna.
