Sri Lanka's Tourism Industry Surpasses Half a Million Arrivals

As of March 5, 2025, Sri Lanka's tourism sector has achieved a significant milestone by welcoming over 530,000 tourists. This marks a 15.1% year-on-year increase, with January and February recording the highest-ever arrivals for these months at 485,102 visitors. India remains the largest source market, followed by Russia and the UK. The industry is optimistic about reaching its target of 3 million visitors by the end of 2025. To sustain momentum, new promotional strategies are set to be launched. Tourism earnings in January 2025 were estimated at $401 million, reflecting a strong start to the year. The sector continues to be a vital contributor to Sri Lanka's economy.
