Statewide Bus Strike Announced In Punjab On February 12

The transport sector in Punjab is bracing for major disruption as contractual employees of Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) announced a statewide strike beginning February 12. The announcement was made after a union meeting in Ludhiana, where leaders accused the state government of failing to honor promises and delaying decisions.  

Union representatives highlighted grievances including the demand for regularisation of services, timely payment of salaries, and abolition of the contract system. They also condemned what they described as attempts to criminalise workers’ protests, pointing to colleagues who have spent nearly two months in custody.  

The strike is expected to impact public transport across Punjab, leaving thousands of commuters stranded. Ahead of the strike, bus stands across the state will be shut down on February 11 as a show of solidarity.
