Tesla Shifts Gears: German Imports to Spearhead India Entry, Bypassing China

Tesla is poised to enter the Indian market by importing vehicles from its German factory, sidestepping concerns about Chinese imports. The company is finalizing showroom locations in Delhi and Mumbai, with sales expected to begin as early as April 2025. Tesla aims to introduce an EV priced under $25,000, targeting the competitive Indian market. The move aligns with India's recent EV policy, allowing Tesla to import 8,000 cars annually at a reduced 15% customs duty, provided it invests $500 million in local manufacturing. This strategic shift comes amid ongoing US-China trade tensions and potential further reductions in Indian import duties for electric vehicles.
