Tibetan New Year Festivities Begin in Dharamshala with Spiritual Vigor and Subdued Celebrations

The Tibetan New Year, or Losar, was launched yesterday with special prayers in Dharamshala, the state of Himachal Pradesh. The three-day Losar festival, which is from February 28 to March 2, 2025, has been celebrated this year with a muted atmosphere. The Central Tibetan Administration has requested people not to celebrate to demonstrate solidarity for the victims of a recent earthquake that struck Tibet. In spite of the absence of celebrations, Tibetans flocked to the Tsuglagkhang Temple for customary rituals and prayers. The occasion is the beginning of the Tibetan lunar new year 2152, with believers seeking blessings and offering obeisance to their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
