Tiny Toes, Big Dreams: Kolkata’s Young Ballerinas Shine In First International Assessment

For the first time, Kolkata’s budding ballerinas were assessed through an internationally accredited examination. This initiative not only validates their training but also opens pathways for global recognition, placing the city firmly on the map of classical ballet.

The Evaluation

Conducted by Reverie Dance Academy in Salt Lake, the examination was overseen by ARBTA and accredited by the GQAL board. The Vaganova method, a rigorous Russian ballet system, was used to evaluate students across levels. Examiner Tamara Vile flew in exclusively to assess the participants, praising the quality of training and dedication.

Impact On Students

The evaluation provided young dancers with constructive feedback, confidence, and internationally valid certification. For many parents, it reinforced ballet as more than a hobby, highlighting its discipline and artistry. Founder Antara Basu emphasised that the initiative will nurture talent and raise awareness about ballet in Kolkata.

While Mumbai and Delhi have seen steady growth in ballet academies, Kolkata’s inclusion in global ballet examinations signals a cultural shift. It reflects the city’s evolving artistic landscape and ensures that local talent can aspire to international standards.
