Trent's Zudio Looking For New Horizons: Ambitious Expansion Amid Economic Challenges

Tata Group's low-cost fashion retailer Zudio is planning to open 200 new stores in the financial year 2024-25, as it looks to dramatically increase its footprint in India. This growth comes after more than 100 stores were added in the previous fiscal year, taking the number to close to 500 by March 2024. Zudio's approach takes advantage of increasing demand for fashionable but low-cost clothing, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where consumer expenditure is increasing despite a general economic downturn that is impacting most retailers.

 

But this growth-at-all-costs strategy can also be dangerous. Experts caution that fast expansion can thin out resources, particularly as Zudio expands into new markets and product segments such as beauty products. Growth must be balanced with operational efficiency to continue its success in a competitive environment.
