Zara Says Goodbye to South Mumbai, Purple Style Labs Steps In —Talk About a more Stylish Move!?

 

Zara shut its five-floor flagship store in the heritage Ismail Building in Mumbai after a run of eight years. The 51,300 sq ft store that opened in 2017 shut down on February 23, 2025, because it was not economically viable. During the same time, Purple Style Labs, India's premier luxury fashion house, leased 60,000 sq ft in the building for Rs. 206 crore for five years. This represents a major new direction for retail in South Mumbai, with Purple Style Labs planned to establish a new destination for Indian designer fashion brands. Zara will retain its presence in Mumbai through three of its current mall-based stores and website.
