Zara Zooms Past Sustainability Goals with Soaring Emissions in 2024

Inditex, the parent group of Zara, recorded a 10% increase in transport emissions in 2024. The increase is because there has been an increased use of air freight in transporting clothes from Asia to Spain, partly as a result of disruptions in shipping within the Red Sea. This notwithstanding, total greenhouse gas emissions were constant due to decreased emissions from product sourcing. Inditex wants to cut emissions in half by 2030 and be net zero by 2040. Inditex has also committed to utilizing sustainable aviation fuel for part of its air freight, with the goal of cutting emissions even more.
